What is SolarLink?

SolarLink is a space-themed tabletop role playing game (TTRPG).

As SolarLink documents are completely available online, it is free to play. SolarLink is a game focused on the building and maintenance of a SolarLink, a large ship that serves as the center of action for the players. These ships are named for their ability to "link" solar systems, and will usually carry crew, cargo, and even other smaller ships for defense. The goal of SolarLink is to create a system that enables players to interact consistently with the same non-player characters while traveling. SolarLink is not designed for massive, large scale space combat, rather crews of an individual SolarLink are intended to fit ten to fifty people.

SolarLink is intended to also a relatively open-ended system with few pre-requisites during character creation. There are only three main classes with few differences between each other. Furthermore, the main method of accomplishing actions, Trade Rolls, technically have infinite variations. An action not being explicitly called out in the text of the book does not mean it cannot be performed. Therefore, this system recommends that the GM be someone experienced in tabletop role playing games who is fond of on-the-fly rulings.

In terms of combat, SolarLink prefers to award players with more options rather than statistical bonuses. Characters do not gain HP on level up and instead gain Maneuvers. Generally, Maneuvers have no prerequisites and are mostly designed to increase player options in combat. As most characters do not gain statistical bonuses with levels, character wealth plays an important role in their survivability.

SolarLink is a tabletop RPG that follows players as they travel the galaxy. Like other tabletop RPGS, players will meet with the GM multiple times. The entire series of gameplay following the same group of GM and players is referred to as a Story (or Campaign). Each time a SolarLink departs a location to arrive at a new final destination is called a Voyage. Each day players meet with the GM to play is called a Session.

The SolarLink SRD contains all the content necessary to play SolarLink. SolarLink will always be freely available for as long as we can afford to host it online.
