Space Combat

Space combat defined by combat that takes place between spacecraft (such as TerraLinks and SolarLinks) at a scale of one (1) MAU or greater. Compared to Ground Combat, Space Combat tends to have more complexity and tends towards higher lethality. This is largely owing to the hostility of open space, which almost certainly kills anyone blown out of their TerraLink. Unlike Ground Combat, Space Combat occurs is divided into two phases, the Space Movement Phase and the Space Attacking Phase.

The Space Movement Phase

The Space Movement Phase is the first phase of Space or Combined combat. This phase represents the simultaneous movement of all characters in Space Combat. Therefore, in order to represent the advantage of reflexively acting faster in the turn order, characters all move in reverse Turn Order during this phase.

If a character is involved in Space Combat, they receive AP at the start of their turn during the Space Movement Phase. Thanks to conservation of momentum, characters do not need to spend any AP to maintain their current momentum in Space. Instead, characters spend AP to handle their space craft, accelerate, decelerate, jostle, or spend special movement maneuvers. If a character elects to do nothing during the movement phase, they continue to move forward at the same speed and trajectory they were moving in the previous cycle.

The Space Attacking Phase

Once all spacecraft involved in combat have finished moving, the Space Attacking Phase begins. Unlike the Movement Phase, attacks are made in Turn Order, beginning with the character with the highest Turn Order. Attacks work similarly to ground combat, with characters making a piloting Trade Roll corresponding to their space craft (ex. Trade(TerraLink Pilot)). If the roll is higher than the target spacecrafts Defense, the attack is a success and deals damage. Similar to ranged attacks in ground combat, distance increases the difficulty of landing attacks in space. For each MAU away two spacecraft are, attacks between the two receive a minus one (-1) penalty to attack rolls.
